It is the second largest in number of companies listed. The NYSEComposite index topped 9000 on December 4, 2006.Its total market capitalization is 5 times that of NASDAQ even though its daily share volume, well over $3 billion, is less than that of NASDAQ since the 1990’s. About 2300 firms listed on NYSE with total market capitalization of about 21 trillion include the largest US and non-US corporations. Known as also The Big Board.
