Process of etching a printable onto the printing plate . Contrast to letterpress and flexographic printing. The printing ink transfers directly to the paper. Contrast this to offset printing . Typically used in long runs of high-quality, multicolor printing. Known also as photogravure printing, primarily for reproducing photographs.
