Synthetic substances, composed of carbon, hydrogen, and chlorine atoms. Some examples are chlorinated fluorocarbons (CFSs), chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs), and carbon tetrachloride. The chlorine in these compounds makes them resistant to degradation by natural agents, allowing them to persist in environment for a long time after their release.
