A documented, pre-planned, mathematically- computed value using a group of data being transmitted that is transferred along with the data. A receiving device compares the checksum with its own computation . If the transmitted checksum matches the receiving value, the transmitted data is accepted for further processing. If it differs from the received checksum, the transmitting device gets a resend request for the data by the intended receiver.
