Separating a full-color art or photograph by traditional technique into four half-tone negatives of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, and to reproduce all shades of colors in a commercial printing procedure. This is done by a camera or scanner. Illustration software automatically produces color separations in computer-based art or photography. Computer printers do not require color separation to develop a print if using dye sublimation, inkjet, or laser.
